Education Impact - Chale-Chalo NGO

The Education Project, supported by the Wipro Foundation, has been implemented by Chale Chalo since September 2021 in the disaster-prone Rajnagar block of Kendrapara district, Odisha. The project aims to improve the quality of education and strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) among children studying in government primary schools through team capacity building, running remedial learning centers, conducting demonstrative classroom learning sessions, teachers’ capacity building, child-centered, innovative & joyful pedagogical practices, and community participation. The project actively engages children, teachers, parents, School Management Committees (SMCs), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), volunteers, and education stakeholders to promote joyful, child-centred, activity-based, and multi-grade multi-level (MGML) learning processes.

Coverage: 04 government primary schools (direct) and 16 government primary schools (additional) in Rajnagar block, Kendrapara district, Odisha.

Major Activities

School Readiness & Early Learning Support: Age-appropriate activities to build early literacy, numeracy, cognitive, and socio-emotional skills for a smooth school transition.
Classroom Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN): Classroom sessions using MGML management, storytelling, activity-based learning, head and handholding support.
Play-Based and Joyful Learning: Making learning engaging and meaningful through learning camps, games, and creative classroom practices.
Remedial Learning Centres: Supplementary support at community-based centres using structured lesson plans and worksheets to bridge learning gaps.
Learning Assessment & Competency Tracking: Baseline, midline, and endline evaluations to track children's progress and inform teaching strategies.
Teacher Capacity Building: Workshops, trainings, and exposure visits to strengthen pedagogy, curriculum alignment, and child-centric teaching.
Teacher Mentoring & Handholding Support: Regular classroom observations, demonstration lessons, and reflective discussions to improve learning outcomes.
Peer & Collaborative Learning: Joint planning, co-design, and co-teaching platforms for teachers to share experiences and solve classroom challenges.
Education Resource Centre Development: Child-friendly space in Madanpur, Pattamundai, equipped with books, TLMs, and reference materials.
Development of Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs): Creating and adapting age-appropriate, locally relevant TLMs and IEC resources aligned with FLN.
Parental Awareness & Home Support: Engaging parents through meetings and camps to support children's regular attendance and educational development at home.
Stakeholder Engagement & School Governance: Working with Head Teachers, headmasters, SMCs, and PRIs to support effective and inclusive school governance.
Workshops & Consultations: Structured consultations on joyful learning, classroom management, and assessment practices.
Institutional Learning & Knowledge Exchange: Collaborations and knowledge exchange visits with leading educational institutions and resource organisations.
