Water & Livelihood Security
For years, 30 tribal families in Masanmunda and Dharuapada villages of Nuapada district struggled for safe drinking water. Fluoride-contaminated tube wells caused serious health issues, while seasonal wells dried up every summer.
In 2019, Chale Chalo initiated Didi Groups and Village Water Management Committees. Women led the movement—writing applications, visiting offices, and persisting through years of follow-up.
“We could not watch our children suffer anymore. We had to keep trying.”
Their efforts succeeded on 3 June 2025 when piped water supply was restored. Kitchen gardens using wastewater followed, improving nutrition and dignity.
Rupdhar Rout migrated for work due to water scarcity. With community guidance, he restored his backyard dug well and ensured year-round water availability.
“With water and planning, I can earn at home.”
Today, he farms, produces bricks, grows trees, and supports his family without migration.
Communities revived the Pradhani forest through seed balls, saplings, and collaboration with the Forest Department—restoring soil, water, and livelihoods together.
